You may have seen a recent Facebook post from Sussex REC from Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 that showed the rescue of a young black bear cub stuck in a tree in Vernon that was undertaken by our linemen. Three of Sussex REC's linemen, Fred Hosking, Travis Monahan, and Tony Salokas, were called to the scene by NJ Fish & Wildlife to help rescue this abandoned cub. The Facebook post about this story had a massive response from Sussex REC's members and the wider community, becoming one of our most popular social media posts of all time!
This story gained national attention, as our national association NRECA (the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association) reached out to us for more details. They've since published their story with more details than we originally shared on the day of the event! Interested members can read the full story on NRECA's website.
Thank you to our members for all of your support and to our crews for helping this animal in need!
