Electrical safety is extremely important to us here at Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative. Our employees work with electrical equipment every day, so we are committed to providing the absolute best standards and practices to ensure their safety.
This concern for safety extends to you, our members. It is part of SREC's responsibility to act as a resource of information so our members know the potential dangers an electric current can pose and how they can make their homes, and thus their families, safer.
This website hosts multiple pages providing information on electrical safety in various situations:
- Home Safety Tips - How to stay safe indoors and outdoors, and how to prevent electrical fires
- Generator Safety - Tips on purchasing generators and how to prevent backfeed, power surges, fires, and carbon monoxide hazards
- Power Line Safety - Details on power lines, including what to do if you encounter a downed power line or if your car is trapped under a downed line
- Safety Quiz - An online quiz great for introducing kids to electrical safety in the home
All of these resources are here for our members to take advantage of by educating themselves and their families on how to best avoid electrical hazards both in and out of the home. Additionally, we are partnered with SafeElectricity.org, an online resource of electrical safety information. If you have the opportunity, please give the website a look for even more details on how you can best protect yourself and your loved ones.
