Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative is a unique form of electric utility in several ways. A key way is that your Board of Directors must be members themselves or they cannot serve. Our service area is split into three districts (Board Districts Map) with three directors per district. Each director serves a three year term with 1/3 of the directors standing for reelection every year. Elections of board members are held by mail-in ballot as required in our Bylaws.
Qualifications and nominations for a Director of Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative are documented in Article IV, Section 3 and Section 4 of our corporate bylaws. There are many questions that potential candidates may have regarding running for a SREC board position. Clickherefor more information about the director’s role.
It is with great sadness that we report that Ray Cordts, Secretary and Treasurer of our Board of Directors, passed away on Sunday, March 20th. Ray was a mainstay in Sussex County's business community and had a long, distinguished career with Lakeland Bank. Ray served on Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative's board of directors for 27 years and along with his financial acumen always brought his sense of humor with him into the boardroom. He always had a joke ready if you asked, or even if you didn't. Ray will be deeply missed by all of us at the Cooperative, and we are keeping his wife Pam and the rest of his family in our thoughts during this difficult time.
