Sunday, November 24 Update #8 - 8:30 am
9 members remain without power this morning and crews are already on scene to make needed repairs to sevice lines. We hope that all our members enjoy this beautiful day. Post-storm is the best time to assemble your storm kit to be ready for the next, and at this moment in time, the prediction is the Thursday/Friday time frame. Being without power is bearable when you have the right tools at hand.
Saturday, November 23 Update #7 - 7:30 pm
As of 7:45 pm we have 91 members still without power. We are expecting Barry Lakes to be energized in the next hour. The remaining 40+ outages are scattered throughout the territory, but each one will be addressed. Crews will continue to work overnight and into tomorrow. We are thankful for the words of encouragement.
Saturday, November 23 Update #6 - 3 pm
As we continue to work on restoration efforts, we have had a few new outages pop up in Frankford and Wantage. Work continues in Highland Lakes and Barry Lakes and we have moved some additional crews there to supplement those who have been there. A crew will be working on the outage near Pocasset Rd. next, affecting about 100 homes. Unfortunately, we can’t be on all of the outages at the same time and are balancing locations and total members affected. Single services pulled off of homes are also on the list, of course, but some of those may not be reached until tonight and tomorrow.
Wind continues to be a factor today and it has caused some additional outages. We appreciate the kind messages of support. We will continue to work on all outages and keep you posted on progress.
Saturday, November 23 Update #5 - 9:30 am
While crews worked to restore outages, our area made local and national news. High Point's 20 inches of snow made national news while a PIX11 news crew interviewed residents in Highland Lakes. While restoring power, new outages are occurring as branches continue to break under the weight of the heavy snow. As we have been working on this post, there is a new outage in Vernon that supervisors are on their way to investigate.
This storm was significant, especially in the higher elevations of our territory, and we will continue to work on these throughout the day. Before this latest outage in Vernon, we had just under 500 members without power.
Line and tree crews will continue to work on these throughout the day. Some of the longest restorations today will be the replacement of broken poles. Our goal is to get as much, if not everything back on by the end of the day. Understand, this is not a guarantee as unexpected outages could still occur to set back the timeline a bit. But this is our best estimate this morning.
Friday, November 22 Update #4 - 8:30 pm
As of 8:30 p.m. 646 members remain out of power. Crews will continue to work throughout the evening to get power on to our members still affected by the storm. Unfortunately, we won't be able to get every member on tonight as some of the outages require pole replacements which will not be finished until tomorrow. SREC Crews will be working until all our members have been restored. Our next update will be tomorrow morning.
Friday, November 22 Update #3 - 2:35 pm
At this time, there are around 1,500 members still without power. Our linemen and the tree crews will continue to work through the night until all of our members have their power restored.
For those still affected, the Sussex County Government shared this list of available warming centers. Each branch of the library will be open until 5 pm, and the Sparta Township Police Department is available as a 24/7 warming center. Please look to the county or your town’s officials for news on any additional warming resources.
Friday, November 22 Update #2 - 10:30 am
Please be advised that our outage map is showing more members out of service than is accurate. At this time we have approximately 2,000 members out, predominantly in higher elevations.
Again, crews are working as fast as safety permits.
Friday, November 22 Update #1 - 7:30 am
A wet heavy snow is stacking up in the higher elevations and is forecast to continue through much of the day. While some members may view it as a minor storm as you may not have much snow on your street, your electric feed can extend a mile or more away, and it can be affected by higher elevation problems. Certainly, the pictures illustrate the conditions, especially through Vernon, that our linemen are dealing with. Trees, branches, icy conditions, coupled with gusty winds, are causing outages across our service territory. Crews are out and working as fast as safety permits, and additional tree trimming contractors are working as we expect a lot of tree damage. We are expecting extended interruptions throughout the day and into the evening. We will keep you updated as day breaks and weather changes.
It is the first snow of the season. Vernon students get a snow day and Christmas music is on the radio. Wasn't it summer last week?
